Care and Maintenance for Natural Stones

Natural Stones such as Granite, Marble, Limestone, and Travertine are products of nature. It may have small cracks, blemishes, pits and voids. These characters are inherent properties of natural stones and are NOT considered defects.

Most natural stones are porous and susceptible to stains. Sealing is a common step taken on stones as an extra precaution against staining. Here at Richmond Stonework, we give an initial sealing before we install your counter tops. Even though your counter tops are sealed, it does NOT mean the stones are stain proof. It just means the stones are more stain resistance. Sealers act as a temporary barrier so you will have enough time to clean the surface stains before it gets absorbed into the stones.

To clean your counter tops, Richmond Stonework recommends mild soap and water. Wipe up spills and stains immediately with a clean cloth. Oil-based products will leave a permanent stain if it is not clean right away. Periodically re-seal the counter tops to reduce the chance of staining. Stone cleaners can be purchase at Richmond Stonework or any hardware stores such as Home Depot or Rona.
